Firstbase began with a missed milestone. While traveling for work, our founder Chris Herd was thousands of miles from home when his daughter took her first steps. That sting of distance sparked a mission: build a world where talent can do the best work of their lives without sacrificing the moments that matter most.
We embraced distributed work from day one, becoming our own first customer. Every obstacle, shipping laptops across borders, repairing broken gear, reclaiming devices from departing teammates, became a feature in what is now the Firstbase platform.
Today, the worlds fastest growing most respected and admired technology companies like Spotify, Cloudflare, UiPath, Sentinel one, and hundreds of other, rely on us to equip teams efficiently, sustainably, and on time, wherever work happens.
Firstbase set out to give CIOs a single pane of glass for everything their people touch. From the laptops on their desks to the SaaS that powers their days, for five years we chipped away at the “hardware” side of that dream, shipping gear to 190-plus countries, reclaiming it when people moved on, and wiring every action back into one clean audit trail.
Over the course of 12 months, we got to know the AppDirect team incredibly well. In spending time with Nicolas Desmarais, AppDirect’s founder and CEO, and the AppDirect team, we realised we saw the future of IT and B2B commerce in very similar ways. AppDirect unified software, telecom, and other recurring expenses for 5 million subscribers through 1,000 providers and 10,000 trusted advisors. Firstbase took care of everything in the real world, handling hardware. Together, we thought there was an opportunity to deliver the B2B everything store to thousands of companies even more quickly.
