First Base has entered into a joint venture with London Borough of Havering to transform Romford Town Centre with new homes and workspace. The joint venture will engage c. 1070 new homes delivered alongside a new school, Health Centre and a mix of workspace and community amenities. In addition, a new bridge linking the site to the Elizabeth Line at Romford station. The announcement follows news in March 2016 that the centre of Romford had been designated a Housing Zone by the Mayor of London which will see £35m of public money invested in unlocking sites, paving the way with mixed-tenure homes and new employment opportunities and fits in with the Council’s wider vision for a changing Romford.
Working with renowned architects, the joint venture is exploring a number of design options to deliver a mix of residential and commercial workspaces, to activate the River Rom and to bring activity that will complement the vibrant Romford Town Centre. Throughout 2018, the joint venture will be engaging with local residents, businesses and stakeholders to develop more detailed plans for the site.
